This certificate provides the general education courses required for entry into the Distance Learning Veterinary Technician/Nursing degree with Colby Community College. According to the Ohio Bureau of Labor Market Information, employment of Veterinary Technicians is projected to grow 16.5% in Ohio from 2018 to 2028(1).
All prerequisite and program-specific coursework must be completed with a grade of “C” or better to meet prerequisite, co-requisite, and graduation requirements. The following prerequisite courses are not offered at Owens Community College and may be completed online through Colby: AG149 Principles of Animal Science (3 credit hours) VN115 Introduction to Veterinary Nursing (1 credit hour).
Completion of 30 hours of observation or work experience in a veterinary hospital is also required to meet the selective admission requirements of the Distance Learning Veterinary Nursing Program at Colby Community College.
After graduation, students are required to pass the Veterinary Technician National Examination and register with the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board to practice as a veterinary technician.
Students may also begin with this certificate and complete an Associate of Science General either in conjunction with or in addition to the Colby degree.
