Program Outcomes


The purpose of the Medical Assisting Certificate program is to prepare you for employment as an entry level medical assistant in physicians’ offices, urgent care centers, outpatient surgical centers, and many other areas in healthcare. In our 12 month certificate program, you will learn the administrative and clinical skills required to be successful in finding meaningful and sustainable employment and you will be prepared to sit for a national certification exam upon graduation. Our program is designed to work with students from all backgrounds and schedules. We provide you with small class sizes to allow for hands-on training with our skilled faculty in a supportive environment with built-in flexibility with open labs and tutoring sessions to maximize success. Our faculty and staff will work with you closely through your entire journey in the Medical Assisting Certificate program, from your first day in class to assisting you in finding employment upon graduation!

Medical Assistant Certificate Program Student Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize the role of patient advocacy in the practice of medical assisting.
  • Demonstrate empathy in communicating with a culturally diverse population.
  • Incorporate communication skills when collaborating with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Comply with federal and state regulation as they apply to the field of medical assisting.
  • Execute clinical and administrative skills as they relate to the profession of medical assisting

Medical Assistant Certificate Program Outcomes

  • Certification exam results for the first time exam takers will be at the national mean of 70%.
  • Within one year of graduation, 70% of MA graduates seeking employment will be gainfully employed.
  • 70% of employers responding to the employer survey will report satisfactory graduate performance.
  • Six months after graduation, 70% of graduates will evaluate the MA program at Owens has adequately prepared them for an entry-level medical assisting job.
  • 70% of students enrolled in the MA program will complete the program within the time specified at the time of their enrollment.
