Program Information:

This Golf/Turfgrass Management major prepares students for entry and supervisory level positions in many turf-related industries, including golf courses, athletic field facilities, municipal facilities, lawn care companies and sales, as well as others.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will be able to identify various soil types needed for the golf and turf industries depending on the end use.

  • Students will be able to understand the specific horticulture practice for the golf or turf industries.

  • Students will be able to identify and recommend control measures for a variety of insects, diseases and pests that impact the golf and turf industries.

  • Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the design, estimating and installation process for golf greens, bunkers and fairways as well as turf fields.

Career Interests:

Students graduating from this major will find positions in some of the following areas: public, private and municipal golf courses; professional and semi-pro athletic fields; municipal and high school athletic facilities; and lawn care companies. Some graduates start their own lawn care businesses, while others continue on for their bachelor’s degree at a four-year university.

Petition for Degree Completion

Students are eligible to become a candidate for an Associate Degree when the student has completed all necessary requirements. Students who are registering for their final semester of course work and plan to graduate must submit a petition for degree completion by accessing their Ozone account.

1 Students who have taken 24 credit hours or more either at Owens Community College or another college or university can substitute an Arts and Sciences elective or SSC 110 , SSC 115 SSC 130 .  Elective choices are indicated under the Associate of Arts Concentrations: Elective Information .

2 Select Speech Elective course choice from: SPE 101  or SPE 210 

3 Select Business Elective course choice from: BUS 101 , BUS 130 , or BUS 205 

4 Select Social and Behavioral Sciences Elective course choice indicated under the Associate of Arts Concentrations: Elective Information .  

5 Recommended two-credit hour technical electives: LTM 212  or LTM 210
