This program prepares students for entry- and supervisory-level positions in firms that provide maintenance and management services in the landscape, turfgrass and related horticultural industries. The rapidly growing markets for these services offer excellent opportunities for graduates.

Student Learning Outcomes
Student will be able to:

Identify a wide range of woody and herbaceous landscape plants.

Understand many horticultural practices such as; planting, pruning, watering, fertilizing and others.

Identify and recommend control measures for a variety of insects and diseases.

Understand the design, estimating and installation process for landscape projects.

Understand the “Science of Plants”, including things such as: morphology, anatomy, growth and development, soil science and overall plant health.
Career Interests
Students graduating from this program can find positions in the landscape field such as landscape designer, landscape installation, landscape construction and landscape maintenance. These positions could be at public or private, golf courses, arboretums and gardens and corporate sites. Nurseries have positions in production, pest management, shipping and sales. Garden centers also offer opportunities. Some graduates start their own landscape installation or maintenance business and some continue on for their bachelor’s degree at a four-year university.
