Commercial Photography Major Information


The purpose of the Commercial Photography program is to prepare students for the growing field of photography, in particular the continually changing digital skills sets necessary in a technology based world.

Student Learning Outcomes

Student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficient operation of a variety of film and digital cameras both technically for exposure and creatively for visual effects.

  • Produce images of a wide variety of studio and natural lighting applications for use in varied commercial environments.

  • Apply knowledge of current digital imaging technology (computer, software) for image capture, editing, file management, and storage.

  • Demonstrate ability to select, edit, color manage and output photographic images to a variety of sources such as darkroom, printer, web, or service bureau.

  • Design photographic images that illustrate lighting, composition, perspective, and color concepts

  • Interpret significant events, people, technical advances, and images in photography within a social, political, and cultural context

  • Develop soft skill competencies such as team work, networking, presentation and interfacing with clients.

  • Create a career/business development strategy appropriate to the student’s desired field of expertise in photography.

  • Produce a professional level portfolio of creative work used as a tool for securing work.
