Assessment of Student Learning

The vascular sonography program periodically assesses its effectiveness in achieving their stated goals and learning domains. The results of this evaluation are implemented in timely revision of the program.

Vascular Sonography Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Programs is to provide, in partnership with the community, formal, high quality education to student sonographers in the science and art of sonographic imaging.

Program Goals & Student Learning Outcomes

The primary goal of the Vascular Sonography Program is to prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the following concentrations it offers:

Vascular Sonography

Graduates of the Owens Community College Vascular Sonography Program will be able to perform, at minimum, the following goals and objectives:

Goal 1: Students will be knowledgeable in their field.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills regarding sonographic procedures in order to provide optimal results.

Students will obtain, interpret, and review data from charts and patients to facilitate in optimal results.

Goal 2: Students will be clinically proficient.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will perform and analyze sonographic procedures appropriately and accurately for interpretation.

Students will perform a broad range of sonographic examinations.

Goal 3: Students will model professionalism.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will demonstrate effective communications skills.

Students will utilize patient care and comfort skills to provide compassionate care.

Students will act in professional and ethical manner while functioning as part of the healthcare team.
